Dr. Saad Saad: The Future of Medical Procedures

Known as one of the best Pediatric surgeons in the world, Dr. Saad Saad lives to make surgical procedures easier for the surgeons to perform as well as making all surgeries safer for all the patients.

With his father as his guide, he decided in high school that he wanted to become a pediatric surgeon. After his years of college at Cairo University and his internship in England, he came to the United States and became the only board-certified pediatric surgeon who could speak both Arabic and English fluently enough for everyone to understand.

Before Dr. Saad Saad retired, he was the co-medical director and the chief surgeon at the Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. He also is linked to the creation of a surgical residency program to help those in Saudi Arabia. Since improving medical procedures is his goal, he also created two new inventions to help in this process.

Electromagnetic Catheter

Catheters are used in many medical procedures to help with a wide range of things. Although, figuring out where exactly the catheter is located can be a difficult task. Patients usually have to go through at least one x-ray or an MRI, if not more, in order for the doctors to figure out if it is in the right place. This does expose the patient to radiation which could lead to other medical conditions.

Dr. Saad Saad decided this wasn’t good enough and came up with a way to find the catheter once inside the patient’s body without having to do any x-rays or MRI. The tip of the electromagnetic catheter has magnetic material inside the coil and there is a pair of wires that run inside the walls of the catheter. Once this catheter is inside the patient’s body, the doctor can use an external device to go over the patient’s body to find out where it is located. A light will come on once the external device is running perpendicular to the tip.

Suction/Irrigation Endoscope

Endoscopes are also used for many things within the medical field since they are small devices that are able to look inside a patient’s body. These are used not only in surgical procedures but also when doctors are examining a patient. Although, there can also be complications when using an endoscope.

Dr. Saad Saad created an endoscope that has a suction and an irrigation system built into it so the process will be much easier for the doctors as well as the patients. Since our bodies produce liquids, these can get in the way of what the doctor is trying to see. Instead of taking out the endoscope, sliding in a suction, putting the endoscope back in and trying to find where they left off, the doctor just has to turn on the suction. This honestly makes the whole procedure quicker, easier, and less risky for the patient. Learn more: https://www.crunchbase.com/person/saad-saad
